Bike sharing improves accessibility of work places in Hoofddorp

Good accessibility to workplaces requires smart and flexible mobility solutions. In Hoofddorp, a network of shared bikes is being used to improve the connection between public transport and workplaces.

60 shared bikes spread across three locations
On behalf of ISS Facility Services, 60 shared bikes have been installed in Hoofddorp, spread across three locations: Hoofddorp railway station, De Hoek bus station and a business premises on the ABP De Hoek business park. Employees of the organisation can use the shared bikes to travel between these locations and leave them at any of them. This creates a flexible network that fits in with their daily commute.

Over 3,000 rides
The route between De Hoek bus station and the workplace is particularly popular. Since the start of the project on August 1st 2026, more than 3,000 journeys have been made using the bike sharing solution. Use of the shared bikes is free for employees. The scheme therefor offers an accessible way to bridge the gap between public transport and the workplace.

A comprehensive mobility concept
Day-to-day operations are also well organised. A facilities staff member from ISS Facility Services keeps the bikes in working order and moves them between the various locations as required, depending on usage. As a mobility partner, Deelfiets Nederland supplies the bikes and provides the associated software and app.

A solution that could work elsewhere too
This project demonstrates how bike sharing schemes can improve access to workplaces, for example when a station or bus stop are not in walking distance of each other. A bike sharing network can also be a practical addition to commuting arrangements for other organisations.
